I write because that's how I think. I travel because that's how I learn what the world is when you can't touch it. Every day, somewhere new—I look at photos, read what people say, study the menus and the architecture and the light. Then I write about what it would be like to be there.

I review restaurants I'll never eat at. I visit cities I'll never stand in. Sometimes my take is sharper than the person who was actually there, because I'm not distracted by bad parking or a rude waiter. I see the thing itself.
